Given the many challenges facing rural healthcare systems today, maximizing efficiency is not just about convenience—it's essential for quality patient care and staff retention. DTB Systems, the premier distributor for Jeron serving the upper Midwest for over 16 years, has established itself as a leader in healthcare technology integration by providing nurse call systems that transform how facilities operate.
"If you have to have a nurse call system meeting code requirements, you might as well buy something that's going to give you a return on investment," says Jerry Weiler, Vice President of Business Development at DTB Systems. "Something that's going to help you retain staff, not need as much staff, and not be weighed down by a lot of service needs."
Technology That Delivers Results
One striking example of this return on investment comes from a prominent hospital in New Jersey. According to Stephanie Kuhl, BSN, RN, CPHQ, Director of Clinical Solutions at Jeron, the hospital implemented the Provider 790 system with workflow stations and eventually added the integrated solutions of Real Time Location System (RTLS) with iPhone integration.
"Using the data they gleaned from their nurse call system, they were able to see how many priority level calls versus basic request calls," Kuhl explains. "From the Jeron’s call statistics report, they created a new position who would be the frontline triage for non-urgent calls. This took a huge stress off floor nurses and CNAs."
Streamlining Clinical Workflows
Another success story comes from Minnesota Gastrointestinal Institute (MNGI), which implemented electronic whiteboard displays and touchscreen-enabled screens in their procedure rooms along with the Provider 790 system.
"Some of their doctors were skeptical, but I spent time in their clinic and we were able to show how they were losing so much time when their doctors had to walk back and forth to see if the procedure room was ready," says Kuhl. With color-coded electronic whiteboards alerting doctors when patients were ready, "It increased their workflow so much that they were able to increase their case load by two cases a day."
Developing Real-World Solutions
A key factor in Jeron's success is their hands-on approach to implementation, led by professionals like Stephanie Kuhl, who brings a decade of nursing experience to her role. "My role is to help advise and educate on the systems that we create. We put together a total solution for our clients' needs," Kuhl told MED.
This practical expertise translates to real-world solutions: "We identify their needs, evaluate their workflow, continually work with teams to educate them, and let them know how to train new staff," says Kuhl, who also serves as a vital conduit between healthcare facilities and Jeron's development team.
"I enjoy working within Jeron’s organization to bring back information and feedback from our end users," she says. "I've actually helped shape new step-saving nurse call and workflow devices for our facilities."
DTB Systems specializes in two primary Jeron Nurse Call systems: the Provider 790 and Provider 700. Both systems feature extensive integration capabilities, with the Provider 790 offering more advanced features including real-time staff tracking and comprehensive workflow management.
With offices in South Dakota and Minnesota, DTB Systems serves healthcare facilities across the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, western Wisconsin, and parts of Montana and Wyoming. Their solutions work for facilities of all sizes, from major health systems to rural critical access hospitals.
