For healthcare facilities seeking to enhance efficiency and patient care, Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) represent a potentially transformative solution. DTB Systems, an authorized Jeron dealer serving the Plains states, integrates these advanced tracking capabilities within their nurse call systems to help streamline and upgrade healthcare operations.
RTLS functions as a sort of "indoor GPS" for healthcare facilities, making it possible to track equipment, staff, and patients in real time. "RTLS is for a hospital that is really serious about showcasing their efficiency," explains Jerry Weiler, Vice President of Business Development at DTB Systems. Weiler says the technology allows facilities to streamline workflows, enhance safety, and improve patient experiences.
DTB Systems offers three Jeron nurse call systems with RTLS capabilities. The Provider 790 system features smartphone integration and smart bed monitoring. The Provider 700 includes automated staff locating and bed exit monitoring, while the Provider 680 offers wireless phone integration and barcode duty tracking. Weiler says the technology has significant practical applications.

"When a patient presses their button, if you have an audio system that can call out to the nurse, it will tell them 'Room 202,'" Weiler explains. "They'll pick up the call and say 'how may I help you?'" The system can even automate follow-up care: "When they help the person to the bathroom, they can press a button that automatically retriggers a call to someone within five minutes to help bring that person back."
RTLS technology also enhances patient flow and overall patient experience. "I've worked with a hospital where they check in the patient and the patient would get their badge," Weiler notes. "The patient could then wander freely until it's time for them to be seen and not just sit in a waiting room. Someone would know exactly where to find them when ready."
The systems can also help prioritize tasks efficiently. "On the pillow speaker, there is a button that asks for water, for example," says Weiler. "That can go just to an aide so that the nurse isn't overwhelmed with having to bring water or ice. There's also a pain meds request on the pillow speaker and that goes directly to the nurse."
Beyond efficiency, RTLS enhances staff safety through features like panic alerts and automated security responses. The technology also supports infection control through contact tracing capabilities and helps reduce equipment costs by optimizing how various assets are used.
"This is something that can really help with staff retention by making it easier for a person to do their job," Weiler emphasizes. "In the hospital setting, they take this personally. They want to do a good job for the patient. So we empower them to use the tools to help them take care of the patient with fewer steps and more efficiency."
With offices across the Midwest and experience serving facilities from major health systems to rural hospitals, DTB Systems provides comprehensive support for RTLS implementation and integration. Their expertise ensures that each facility receives a customized solution that maximizes the benefits of this innovative technology.
